TORONTO STAR, DIGITAL
While at The Toronto Star I held the position of Art Director, Digital. This involved overseeing the design and presentation of many larger projects and stories on The Star's website. Another large part of my role was helping to launch Star Touch, the tablet-only digital publication. Apart from the creation of templates and standards for the launch of the app itself, I would go on oversee and design much of the content published on Star Touch from 2015 to 2017. Content varied from lifestyle, food, politics, fashion and travel, but a big part of my focus was on many of the larger, hard-hitting investigative stories seen below.
Following the videos below are a selection of screens from various stories designed and art directed for the digital publication.
GONE: Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women
This extensive series of long-form stories won the top prize for Project of the Year at the National News Awards in 2016. Working closely with Toronto Star editors, investigative reporters, photographers and video editors, I served as Art Director and chief designer on the project, setting the visual tone that would then be used on follow-up pieces throughout the year.
